New regulations for vacation rentals have been announced in Quintana Roo, Mexico, covering popular tourist spots like Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum, reports the Cancun Sun.
Quintana Roo Tourism Secretariat's leader, Bernardo Cueto Riestra, stated that these regulations would ensure that vacation rental properties meet the same quality, service, and safety standards as hotels and resorts.
A new registry will be formed, and all vacation rental platforms and properties must register as tourism service providers. As vacation rentals like Airbnb grow, concerns about unregulated properties causing safety risks and negative experiences have arisen. These new regulations aim to standardize safety and operational measures, potentially leading to increased costs for vacation rental owners and, subsequently, higher rates for travellers.
