CTA Issues Monetary Penalty to Air Canada for Violations of the Accessible Transportation for Persons with Disabilities Regulations

The Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) has fined Air Canada CAD $110,000 for breaching the Accessible Transportation for Persons with Disabilities Regulations (ATPDR).

The penalties stem from an incident in JUN 2023 when Air Canada failed to provide a disabled passenger with an adjacent seat for their service dog, resulting in the refusal to transport them.

The airline also neglected to provide a timely written notice explaining the refusal. The violations pertain to specific sections of the ATPDR, and Air Canada has 30 days to request a review by the Transportation Appeal Tribunal of Canada.
