Las Vegas is set to build a new USD $12 billion airport, the Southern Nevada Supplemental Airport, 23 miles south of the city to meet the anticipated surge in travel demand, reports Simple Flying.
With the current Harry Reid International Airport nearing its 2030 capacity limit of 65 million passengers, the new facility aims to alleviate the strain caused by the booming tourism linked to recent sports and entertainment developments.
The selected location, near Jean and Primm, spans 6,000 acres and is scheduled for passenger operations in 2037. Despite concerns over the hefty investment, aviation officials argue that a full build-out may not be necessary initially. Las Vegas' current airport has already experienced a 10% year-on-year increase in traffic, reaching over 42 million passengers in the first nine months of 2023.
