Back to Basics: Alexis von Hoensbroech Steers WestJet’s Low-Cost Transformation

Business Traveler reports that Alexis von Hoensbroech, WestJet's CEO, is steering the airline's transformation into a low-cost carrier with a global long-haul arm.

Focused on repositioning after private equity firm Onex's acquisition, von Hoensbroech simplified the brand by integrating the ultra-low-cost subsidiary, Swoop, into the mainline and plans to add 80 more Boeing 737s to the fleet.

Despite facing challenges, including IT failures and winter storms, von Hoensbroech aims to make Calgary the airline's center of gravity. WestJet's strategy includes a profitable long-haul business, with the CEO envisioning a doubling in size within the next five years.
