Airlines See Stable Profits, Record Traveller Numbers in 2024

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) predicts that airline profits will stabilize in 2024 despite the sector's recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The industry is expected to see a net profit of $23.3 billion in 2023 and $25.7 billion in 2024, with a margin of 2.6% and 2.7%, respectively. However, the high cost of capital driven by rising interest rates remains a concern.

Despite this, global travel is anticipated to reach historic levels, with 4.7 billion travelers expected in 2024 compared to 4.5 billion in 2019. Some countries, like China, still below pre-pandemic travel levels, are projected to turn a profit in 2024.
