Air Canada Pilots on Offensive with Press Event Ahead of AC Results

Air Canada 737 Max

With Air Canada set to reveal its latest earnings on 16FEB, Air Canada pilots are going on the offensive.

Air Canada pilots, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA), have invited media to their headquarters on 15FEB so union leaders can speak about ongoing labour talks and the pilot supply situation in Canada. The invitation also says pilots will be able to provide “an inside perspective on Air Canada’s performance and profitability.”

Interested parties often don’t comment until after a company announces its earnings. But Air Canada’s pilots union clearly wants to have more control of the narrative.

“Air Canada pilots have been in contract negotiations with Air Canada for over seven months,” ALPA states. “Their existing nearly decade-old contract, which expired on September 29, 2023, is outdated, and does not reflect today’s world.”

Air Canada on 16FEB will unveil its 2023 fourth quarter and FY 2023 financial results. Canada’s largest airline reported operating revenues of more than $6.3 billion for the third quarter of 2023, a 19% increase over the same period in 2022. Operating income reached $1.4 billion, more than double the previous year.
