Chantiers de l'Atlantique Shipyard Tests Cruise Ships With Sails

French shipyard Chantiers de l'Atlantique is planning to construct cruise ships topped by striking 80 meter "eco-friendly" panelled sails, made of fiberglass and carbon. The Solid Sail/AeolDrive concept, which the shipyard says would reduce cruise emissions by up to 50 per cent, has been over a decade in the making -- and testing is still ongoing, so it'll be some time before these sails could top operating passenger ships. The concept has already "attracted great interest" from industry players, it says.
