Opinion: Let Cruise Ships Sail to Vancouver

Herbert Grubel from the Financial Post writes about why cruise ships should be allowed back in Vancouver, seeing the current situation as “another catastrophic policy of the federal government.” In light of the U.S. government’s newly-adopted law that permits cruise ships to temporarily bypass foreign ports on the way to Alaska, Grubel writes the decision will result in the loss of “billions of dollars of income by B.C. businesses and workers that serve cruise ship passengers on land and sell supplies to the ships’ operators.” He advises amendments be made to Canada’s current cruise ship ban that would benefit the recovery of the B.C. economy.
