Norwegian Cruise Line Cancels Second Caribbean Homeport This Summer

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has canceled cruises from Dominican Republic on the Norwegian Gem this summer season. The cruise line had originally set 15AUG as the sailing date from La Romana, Dominican Republic, as part of their return to cruising operations worldwide. The announcement comes just a few days after NCL canceled sailings from Montego Bay, Jamaica, on the Norwegian Joy. This move was unexpected, as NCL boss Frank del Rio had said these sailings were selling well. As U.S. cruising is opening up once more, the cruise line is beginning to redeploy there, close to lucrative and high-volume ‘drive’ markets that are easier for many US-based cruisers to reach than fly-to ports of embarkation.
