Yellowknife Operators Win WestJet Indigenous Tourism Grant

Two Indigenous Yellowknife tourism operators have been selected to receive a CAD $10,000 grant from WestJet and the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC). Aurora Village and North Star Adventures are among nine companies chosen for the grant, as both WestJet and the ITAC have acknowledged the showcase of Indigenous culture and history to be an important and developing field in Canadian tourism. Both tour operators give travellers the opportunity to take a tour of the Canadian north by Yellowknife, and showcase the landscape and Indigenous heritage of the area. The Indigenous business selected for the grants will also be highlighted by WestJet’s social media channels. For WestJet “a nationally recognized reputable company” to “see the value that Indigenous tourism contributes nationally is very promising,” said Joe Bailey, owner of North Star Adventures.
