WestJet Update: Post-Strike Operations Stabilized, Beryl Blow Back

WestJet continues to get back on schedule as it works through the backlog of customer flight disruptions. However, Hurricane Beryl has impacted all airlines flying into the Caribbean.

As of 03JUL the carrier confirmed operations have stabilized and are projecting minimal future cancellations in relation to the labour events of the Canada Day long weekend. 30 flights were cancelled on 03JUL, with only eight cancelled for 04JUL. In total, 1,171 flights were cancelled as a result of the mechanics' strike.

WestJet is also reiterating the refund opportunities for pax affected by the strike.

“In compliance with the Air Passenger Protection Regulations (APPR), in the event reaccommodation with WestJet or an alternative airline isn’t available within 48 hours of a guest's scheduled departure, guests are entitled to request a refund to their original form of payment.”

Due to Hurricane Beryl, WestJet has issued travel advisories for Cancun, Montego Bay and Kingston and, as a result of airport closures in Jamaica, have suspended operations to and from Montego Bay and Kingston until at least 04JUL.

The airline will continue to monitor Hurricane Beryl’s path closely and will make operational changes in the name of safety as required. Recovery flights to support guests impacted by Hurricane Beryl, will be evaluated once it is safe to resume operations.

In the meantime, guests are urged to follow all emergency response instructions provided by local authorities. Guests travelling to or from Cancun, Montego Bay and Kingston are also advised to check the status of their flights prior to leaving for the airport.

Guests with reservations affected by the latest travel advisory can make voluntary changes to their itinerary that allows date/destination change free of charge or free cancellation. Fare difference will apply.
