Airlines worldwide are grappling with a massive IT shutdown that has grounded hundreds of flights and shut down Porter Airlines until noon.

Reports say the incident appears to be linked to CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity company.

Writing on its Twitter/X account, Porter said it is cancelling flights until 12 p.m. ET for 19JUL due to third-party systems outages affecting global industries.

“Visit http://flyporter.com for more information and updates. We're working to return service asap.”

As of 6:30 a.m. ET on 19JUL, FlightAware reported more than 240 cancelled American Airlines flights and more than 110 cancelled United flights.

NL Times reports that Dutch airline KLM will suspend most of its operations on Friday while it works out a solution.

Writing on its Twitter/X page, KLM said limited air traffic is currently possible following a global computer outage affecting airlines, airports and others. Customers should expect delays and cancellations.

Writing on its Twitter/X account, American Airlines said, “Earlier this morning, a technical issue with a vendor impacted multiple carriers, including American. As of 5:00 a.m. ET, we have been able to safely re-establish our operation.”

Open Jaw is urgently looking into the issue. Stay tuned for more details.
