US Virgin Islands Asks Florida Gov. to Allow Vaccine Passports for Caribbean Cruises

U.S. Virgin Islands Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. asked his Florida colleague, Gov. Ron DeSantis, to reconsider the state’s ban of COVID-19 vaccine passports for Caribbean cruises, citing a potential negative impact on the health and wellbeing of Caribbean residents when cruises resume. “The bill you signed into law (which goes into effect 01JUL) may negatively impact the United States Virgin Islands and other port of call destinations in the Caribbean region,” Bryan said, highlighting Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) approvals for cruise ships to begin sailing from U.S. ports with strict health and safety guidelines, such as the vaccination of 95% of passengers and crew members. Bryan also noted that the lack of infrastructure puts the region at a disadvantage, and that ports in the Caribbean may not be equipped to deal with a potential health crisis.
