River cruising has seen a spike in interest over the past few years, and some industry players say it is seeing a new rise in interest thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. River lines like AmaWaterways and American Cruise Lines say they have an offering that appeals to safety-conscious travellers during the pandemic – ships are smaller, they operate nearer to land and are tailored to a more private experience. CLIA’s Andy Harmer takes a more cautious approach, saying the rising interest may be a continuation of what was already occurring pre-pandemic.
