Protests Erupt After Nova Scotia Restricts New Brunswick Travellers

Protestors blocked the Trans-Canada highway that connects Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, as the latter was kicked out of the Atlantic Bubble travel agreement by N.S. The four Atlantic provinces were set to allow residents to travel freely around the region starting on 23JUN, without the need to quarantine, but Nova Scotia Premier Iain Rankin announced his province would exclude N.B. Hours after the announcement, protesters shut down traffic on the Trans-Canada Highway that links the two provinces, and RCMP was called to arrest demonstrators after highway traffic was shut down for more than 24 hours. Nova Scotia’s last-minute decision also sparked a strong reaction from the tourism sector, as the new rules mean everyone travelling from New Brunswick must quarantine for two weeks, even if they’re fully vaccinated.
