Cancun, Riviera Maya Recovering as Vacation Demand Continues, says Director of State Tourism

According to the director of the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council (CPTQ), Darío Flota Ocampo, the tourism sector in Cancun and Riviera Maya is recovering due to greater travel connections, along with new air routes, and the arrival of cruise ships. CUN is recording hundreds of daily flights and hotels register guests well into the summer months. Another report by the Cancun Hotel Association shows a majority of the region’s hotels are maintaining an average occupancy rate of between 60 and 70 per cent. While hotels in the region are only allowed to accommodate guests at 50 per cent occupancy, 204 special permits have been issued to exceed that limit at certain hotels due to the volume of visitors.
