Transat A.T. Inc. placed 21st out of 50 on the list of best Corporate Citizens in Canada, an annual ranking established by the Corporate Knights research firm for companies with over $1 billion in revenue.
The Knights base their ranking on how well a company manages its human, natural and financial resources. Specifically, there are 24 key indicators, including energy and water
consumption, production of waste and atmospheric emissions, employee turnover, representation of women in senior executive positions and on boards of directors, pension fund status, supply chain management and innovation.
For the Montreal-based Transat, this distinction is largely thanks to its sustainability achievements since 2007. It bases its efforts on four pillars: the environment, communities, operations and the workplace.
But it’s actually a slight slip from its ranking the previous year, when Transat ranked 18th.

This also wasn’t the first time Transat has been recognized for its sustainable practices. In 2018 Transat became the world's first major international tourism company to obtain Travelife certification for all of its tour operator and travel agent activities.
Annick Guérard, President and Chief Executive Officer of Transat said in a statement, “It is an honour to be once again among Canada’s best corporate citizens, which, like us, are committed to contributing to the well-being of society, reducing their impact on the environment and developing in a sustainable manner. As we prepare to restart our post-pandemic operations, our commitments to corporate responsibility are more vital than ever. I share this recognition with our employees and partners, who help us improve every day.”
