Via Rail to Resume Eastern Ocean Service Beginning 11AUG

The Maritime Ocean route, the last of Via Rail’s routes to have been suspended due to the pandemic, will gradually resume starting 11AUG.

The resumption will be a progressive one, starting with a weekly round trip.

Halifax to Montreal will start on 11AUG, and then Montreal to Halifax will resume 15AUG.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has had an important impact on the travel options of Canadians in Eastern Canada,” said Cynthia Garneau, president and CEO of Via Rail in a statement.

“To follow and respect guidelines and recommendations from public health authorities and provincial governments, we could not provide our passengers the service and frequencies offered under normal circumstances. Our objective has always been the safe resumption of the Ocean when conditions allowed it, and we could not be happier to finally proceed with this gradual return to service in this region.”
