New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island have opened their borders to one-dose vaccinated Canadian domestic tourists, but differences in entry requirements may lead to varied approaches to welcoming tourism back this summer. “Government has really made it clear that science will dictate our reopening plan; things evolve, they change,” said Anna Moran, director of research at Tourism Nova Scotia, on that province’s unilateral approach to reopening. However, despite the patchwork of entry requirements, travel demand is reaching Atlantic Canada, first from friends and family, then boosted by return visitors. Despite the Canadian-U.S. border remaining closed, tourism businesses in the region are remaining hopeful for the boost in domestic travel.
