3 Ways Local and Domestic Trends Will Shape the Future of Travel

Skift identifies three domestic travel trends that will shape the future of the industry following the COVID-19 pandemic. First, the demand for domestic national travel will continue to perform better than international travel, at least for the short term. Domestic destinations can enjoy high travel demand, but this may shift to international travel in time. Second, governments and policies will play a big role in travel. While domestic businesses are seeing increased local demand, some destinations rely on international tourism, meaning that governments are finding innovating ways to bring in international tourists without risking a pandemic. Lastly, digital tools will be fueling the travel industry, domestically and internationally. Part of it is due to COVID-19 travel passes and COVID-19 digital screenings, but consumers and workers are open to greater online offerings.
