A lot of celebrations are happening in Seattle’s cruise port these days, including another this past weekend, when sister cruise lines Holland America Line and Princess Cruises marked their return to cruising in the U.S., beginning with service to Alaska.
Jan Swartz, president of Princess Cruises, and Gus Antorcha, president of Holland America Line, both spoke about how the return to Alaskan waters is good news on many levels, including for cruising, for the crew and guests of both cruise lines, for the port of Seattle, and local communities in Alaska.
HAL debuted its Alaska, 2021 season when the Nieuw Amsterdam sailed on Saturday, 24JUL.
Princess Cruises returned to service in American waters one day later, when Majestic Princess set sail for Alaska on Sunday, 25JUL.
Each line will operate ten cruises sailing out of Seattle through September. This marks the return to cruising and to Alaska for both lines, which have a long history championing Alaskan cruising.
The lines note that historically, one in two guests who cruise to Alaska sail on Princess or Holland America. Both cruise lines have been homeporting out of the Port of Seattle for more than 20 years.
Princess celebrates more than 50 years sailing to Alaska, bringing more guests to the Great Land than any other cruise line.
On its part, Holland America Line was the first cruise line to offer adventures to Alaska and the Yukon nearly 75 years ago.
