Reports are coming out about international arrivals left to sit on planes for hours due to overcrowding at YYZ. Capacity limits inside the customs hall have forced passengers to wait, sometimes up to three hours, as planes are parked at gates. The GTAA’s capacity metering program means passengers are deplaned in groups of 50 every five minutes once an aircraft arrives at the gate, according to Air Canada spokesperson Peter Fitzpatrick. Air Canada’s deplaning process can take more than 40 minutes, but apparently, it’s been taking much longer according to Toronto Sun sources. However, some airlines are doing this differently. “In the event that our guests may have had to wait prior to entering the customs hall, WestJet has been granted an area on the arrivals transfer level at YYZ where we are able to hold guests if required, to ensure guests don’t have to wait onboard,” WestJet spokesperson Madison Kruger told the Sun.
