Tourists Evacuated Near Saint Tropez as Wildfire Rages

Thousands of people, including tourists, have been evacuated due to a wildfire near the resort of Saint-Tropez in southern France, according to the local fire service. “Thousands of people have been evacuated as a precautionary measure, but there are no victims,” a fire service spokeswoman, Delphine Vienco, said, adding that the blaze was “still very fierce.” France is the latest country, along with Greece, Turkey, Spain, Portugal, Algeria and Morocco, to experience large fires this summer. The blaze broke out near the port city of Toulon, and covered more than 3,500 hectares of forest and scrubland by 17AUG.
