YYZ Becomes First Canadian Airport to Launch e-Commerce Platform

YYZ Duty Free Shop

YYZ has announced that it is launching its new e-commerce platform, The Shops at Pearson, on 24AUG, making it the first Canadian airport to develop an online retail store.

The new platform has items only usually seen at the airport's shopping area. Products are available for delivery throughout Ontario, with items ranging from beauty products, fashion accessories, and perfumes. Shoppers can find brands such as Estee Lauder, Gucci, Ray Ban, Ralph Lauren, M.A.C., and more.

The Greater Toronto Airports Authority also notes that sales for these items may be available, but while the news release doesn't mention it, one would assume that duty free discounts - one of many travellers' biggest motivations for airport shopping - would not apply.

"We know people love grabbing their favourite products while at the airport, and now they don't need to travel to get the items they want. As not everyone is ready to travel yet, we are bringing the stores people love directly to them," the statement from the Greater Toronto Airports Authority says.

It's also a new source of revenue for one of Canada's airports crippled by the pandemic.

The new online store adds to YYZ's existing online services at torontopearson.com, where travellers can reserve parking, reserve and collect duty free items, order food, book a lounge, and more.
