19-Year-Old Zara Rutherford, who hopes to be the youngest woman to fly solo around the world, landed in Labrador on 23AUG, her first transatlantic flight and the hardest part of the international journey. Her trip began in her hometown of Belgium on 18AUG, and it is expected to conclude there sometime in NOV. Rutherford said that her transatlantic flight would be difficult, and added that she's glad she tackled it at the beginning of her trip. Along the way, she made stops in the U.K., Iceland and Greenland before arriving in Labrador on Monday evening to a large crowd at YYR. Rutherford is hoping her efforts to break the world record for the youngest woman to fly solo around the world will inspire more girls to get into aviation and to explore science, mathematics and engineering. As of 25AUG, she is on route to Montreal then onward to New York City.
