Hyperloops and Sleeper trains: the Tech Making EU Rail Travel More Accessible Than Ever

Rail travel demand is rising in Europe, as travellers seek to explore domestically during the pandemic and seek more environmentally friendly transport options. During this time, new startups and technologies are reimagining what European rail travel could be like, with luxury overnight sleepers, fast magnetic tracks, and new mobile apps all poised to arrive in the European rail market. Paris-based travel startup Midnight trains is built on the premise of luxurious, but environmentally conscious, overnight rail journeys. The company plans to launch in 2024 with trips as far as Rome, Porto and Copenhagen. Nevomo, a product of researchers at Warsaw University of Technology, is planning to launch crowd-funded hyperloop trains in 2023 that can reach 415km an hour. This is expected to be built on existing infrastructure with the addition of magnetic technology. Nightjet connects Austria, Belgium, Germany, The Netherlands, Switzerland and Italy with its vast fleet of sleeper trains, billed as a cheaper and more environmentally friendly way to travel.
