NAV CANADA, which provides air traffic control and aeronautical information services, has revealed an increase in air traffic figures for the month of AUG 2021 compared to the same period in 2020.

Traffic numbers increased by an average of 66.9 per cent compared to 2020 during the month of AUG, showing some signs of travel recovery in Canada.

Unfortunately, numbers are still down compared to 2019, with a 42.2 per cent decrease in AUG 2021 compared to the same month in 2019. While the return of travel internationally is positive despite the pandemic and the new delta variant, there are still ways to go before full recovery.

Traffic numbers are measured as weightable charging units. These units are calculated based on billable flights, aircraft size and distance flown in Canadian airspace.
