Tourism Organization Says Federal Parties Need to Provide Stability to Industry

Sunset Country Travel Association, which represents tourism businesses across northwestern Ontario, says that its members want the federal government formed after the 20SEP selection to provide stability for the tourism industry. Gerry Cariou, executive director association, said that tourism operators do not want “a handout,” but instead assistance to help prepare for the future. "I think what they want to do is just have a stable business operating environment, allowing them to kind of work their business model," Cariou said. "The main thing that happened during the pandemic was uncertainty, was a month to month, 'is the border going to open, is the border going to open,' and that was torture,” he added. While the tourism industry has felt some relief since 09AUG when the border reopened to fully vaccinated Americans, it also missed out on a lot of pre-pandemic summer business.
