Crystal Cruises’ Parent Co. Plans New Line of Cruise Ships for Hotel Brand Partnerships

Parent company of Crystal Cruises, Genting Hong Kong, has announced plans to build and manage a new line of Universal-class cruise ships in partnership with international hotel brands. Genting President and CEO, Colin Au, said the new ships will be “designed like airplanes, where function is more important than form, simplifying the design and production process and reducing costs, while allowing for customisation by hotel and other brands.” The intended plan is that major hotel brands like Marriott, Accor, Hyatt and Hilton will purchase the ships, which will be managed by Crystal Cruises. Construction on the Universal-class ships, which will reportedly carry 2,000 passengers with a range of COVID-safe features, are planned to begin in 2023 with the first ship to be completed by 2025.
