The state of Hawaii has announced that it will welcome international travellers under the new American federal regulations that go into effect on 08NOV.
As previously reported by OpenJaw, the U.S. will require air arrivals from any country to be fully vaccinated, and will accept mix-and-match shots of any WHO-approved vaccines as full vaccination. In addition, air travellers must also present a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of departure.
Travel for Canadians to Hawaii will follow those new rules.
In addition, beginning 08NOV, state officials confirm it will accept vaccines approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and vaccines listed for emergency use by the World Health Organization, in line with previously announced rulings for the U.S. This includes AstraZeneca, as well as mixed vaccinations.
"Thanks to the people of Hawaii for their patience and for taking precautions to keep our communities safe,” said Hawaii Gov. Ige in a statement.
“Our state continues to see one of the lowest incidences of COVID-19 and death rates related to the virus. As more and more people are vaccinated, we are moving to ease pandemic mitigation measures – including travel restrictions – in a way that ensures the health and safety of our communities."
Direct International Travel to Hawaii
For direct international travel to the islands, non-U.S. citizens must present records of full vaccination, as well as a negative COVID-19 test result (NAAT or antigen) within three days of boarding a flight.
According to a statement, airlines will screen passengers prior to their departure to the U.S. If foreign passengers fail to meet requirements, they will not be allowed to board the flight.
In addition, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will conduct compliance checks with passengers in Hawaii.
Non-Direct International Travel to Hawaii
Also beginning 08NOV, international passengers entering the U.S. from another American state or territory will be treated as domestic travellers for the purposes of entering Hawaii.
Under these rules, the Safe Travels Hawaii program for domestic U.S. travellers remains in place. Current Safe Travels Hawaii requirements include:
- Creating a Safe Travels Hawaii account on a digital device
- Entering trip details
- Filling out a health form, and
- Attesting that all information is correct.
Hawaii mandates a 10-day quarantine for domestic arrivals - but that can be bypassed for travellers who upload proof of vaccination or a negative NAAT COVID-19 test result form a Trusted Travel Partner (TTP) within 72 hours of departure for the State of Hawaii.
