Among 600,000 Cruise Passengers, CDC Reports 1,359 COVID-19 Cases

According to the latest data from the CDC, a total of 1,359 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases have been reported on cruise ships that sailed from U.S. ports starting in summer 2021. The numbers were revealed as part of the CDC’s decision to extend the Conditional Sailing Order (CSO) through 15JAN 2022, and were gathered from passengers and crew from sailings between 26JUN and 21OCT. CLIA said "ballpark estimate" is that 600,000 passengers sailed from U.S. ports between JUN and OCT 2021; and that the estimate does not include crew members. According to the CDC, 49 of the 1,359 cases required hospitalization, and 38 called for medical evacuations.
