Uniworld Announces New ‘MAKE TRAVEL MATTER’ Experiences for 2021

Uniworld Boutique River Cruises and U River Cruises announced (23MAR) a variety of ‘MAKE TRAVEL MATTER’ experiences for 2021 travel through India, Europe and the Middle East. These new experiences will be implemented into itineraries, aiming to advance Uniworld’s commitment to have a positive impact on the people and communities visited on sailings.

“At Uniworld, we’re proud to offer clients experiences that make a positive impact and aid sustainable, conscious travel,” said Ellen Bettridge, President and CEO of Uniworld and U River Cruises.

“Along with our sister brands, we’re committed to making an effort to stand together and show support for the people, wildlife and planet that we all call home; which is imperative now more than ever. Our new experiences meet a rigorous set of criteria to identify the ways in which they will truly make an impact,” Bettridge concluded.

The 2021 and 2022 MAKE TRAVEL MATTER experiences include:

India

In India, Uniworld guests will have the opportunity to board a pedal-powered Trishaw in the “Temple City” of Kalna to explore the Rajbari temple complex dating back to 1739. Guests will then have the opportunity to support local artisans that have been making ornamental brass objects for centuries through attending various brass workshops in Matiari. Clients will also visit Mother Theresa’s home and tomb or the local NGO Calcutta Rescue in Kolkata, which serves the area’s underprivileged children through health clinics, schools, vocational training and preventative health programs; all aboard the India's Golden Triangle & the Sacred Ganges itinerary.

Europe

Uniworld’s MAKE TRAVEL MATTER experiences in Europe include a day on a ‘Dutch Cheese Trail’ at a sustainable, self-sufficient dairy farm on the Tulips & Windmills itinerary. On the Enchanting Danube itinerary clients can enjoy a saffron tasting and lesson on the history of the crop with researcher and producer Bernard Kaar. Guests will receive a tutorial on how “honest” Belgian chocolate is made from sustainable company, Neuhof, on the Holland & Belgium itinerary. On the Castles Along the Rhine itinerary, guests will visit the Doktorenhof Estate just outside of the village of Vennigen to learn about the traditions used to make vinegar.

U River Cruises’ MAKE TRAVEL MATTER experiences in Europe also include the opportunity to go plastic fishing and clean the waters of Amsterdam’s canals on the Amsterdam & Brussels Bound itinerary.

Middle East

In Jordan, Uniworld clients can visit the Iraq Al Amir women’s cooperative Association, which is aimed to provide meaningful employment for local village women while preserving local heritage. Guests will visit the workshop and explore the women’s handmade paper, pottery and fabrics as well as fresh produce, on the Splendors of Egypt & the Nile Jordan extension.
