Travel Agents Under Pressure as Omicron Variant Fears Prompt More Border Closures

Travel advisors are saying that some would-be travelers are considering cancelling or delaying vacations due to new travel restrictions brought on by the Omicron variant, threatening an already fragile recovery for the global tourism industry. “We’re not being rushed off our feet,” said a spokesperson from Flight Centre Travel Group Ltd., which saw some cancelled and delayed trips from Australian travellers. “It is still very early days and people are generally prepared to wait and see what eventuates.” Meanwhile, Jeremiah Wong of tour agency Chan Brothers Travel in Singapore said some customers are still “keen to carry on with their travel plans, because they have been planning for this for a long time.”
