OPINION: Canada Needs to Make a Tough Call on Boosters as a New Variant Emerges

With the emergence of the new Omicron variant, the CBC outlines the possibility of the Canadian government making booster shots more widely accessible. While countries such as the U.S., the U.K., and Israel, have offered up additional shots to reduce the risk of an additional surge, only some provinces and territories have expanded access to booster shots while in others, it is only available to vulnerable populations. However, data from the National Advisory Committee on Immunization says that there is no evidence of a vaccine’s protection decreasing over time, but may update its guidance on booster shots as more evidence arrives.
