Omicron Variant Prompts Emergency G7 Health Meeting, Including Canada

Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos met virtually with his G7 counterparts on 29NOV for an emergency meeting to discuss the Omicron COVID-19 variant. The ministers expressed a backing for an international pathogen surveillance network within the World Health Organization. The G7 emergency meeting came as the World Health Assembly held a special assembly to discuss the possibility of an international treaty on pandemic readiness. The G7 health ministers will reconvene next month.
