Omicron Variant Likely in Global Circulation “Weeks if not Months” as Canada Discovers More Cases

Canadian health officials say that the new Omicron variant is likely already in circulation within the country, with new cases being reported in Quebec and Ontario. Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Kieran Moore, said that the variant has likely been in global circulation for “many, many weeks if not months.” However, while Moore said the news surrounding Omicron is concerning, he also pointed to the province’s “robust” testing system which picked up on two cases through random testing.
