Carnival Horizon Drydocks for Repairs, Liberty and Sunshine to Take its Place

Carnival Horizon
Carnival Horizon

Carnival Horizon will be out of service for longer than expected as it drydocks for repairs, with its future sailings cancelled until 22JAN 2022. Carnival Liberty and Sunshine will take its place for scheduled sailings in Miami.

On 30NOV, Carnival Cruise Line informed guests that Carnival Horizon departures on 05 and 11DEC from Miami were cancelled due to a technical issue with its maximum cruising speed. After an assessment, Carnival decided Horizon will need to undergo an urgent dry dock in Italy until 22JAN 2022.

Carnival Liberty and Carnival Sunshine will return to service to take over Carnival Horizon's itineraries sailing out of PortMiami, for departures on 19, 26, and 31DEC. From there, Sunshine will move to Charleston for its restart on 13JAN, while Liberty will take up Horizon's remaining Miami-based Caribbean itineraries on 08 and 22JAN.

According to Cruise Hive, bookings on Carnival Horizon are being transferred to the Carnival Liberty or Carnival Sunshine for the same itinerary. However, these ships are not a part of Vista-class and have slightly fewer offerings. The cruise line is offering guests $200 of onboard credit per stateroom to make up for the inconvenience. With the two replacement Carnival vessels not offering some of the more updated cabin categories, Carnival Cruise Line is providing $250 of onboard credit per stateroom.

Through 06-21DEC, the cruise line will be shifting over reservations from Horizon to the two other vessels, and guests and travel advisors will be communicated detailing the changed bookings. Guests who would rather not be transferred have the option for a full refund.
