Canada Border Services Agency released its operational highlights of 2021, with some luxury items and even vehicles on the list of confiscated goods. 52 stolen vehicles that were at the ports of Saint John and Halifax, including “pick-up trucks, cars, SUVs and various luxury vehicles.” In JUN, border guards in St. Stephen questioned two Canadians returning from a trip to Florida attempting to slip luxury items past the border without paying for taxes and duties. The two Canadians would have paid CAD $5,800.32 in duties and taxes if they declared the watches, but instead they were confiscated and the owners would have to pay CAD $11,600.64 to get them back. Narcotics and firearms were another common find in the CBSA’s 2021 highlights.
