Though Poles Apart, Two Santas Become Friends

When Gerry Ouellette was forced to host his Santa Claus tours online during the pandemic, he went looking for tech help on a Facebook group filled with hundreds of other Santa Clauses. Santa Glen Ford responded. Oulette, who lives in Sarnia, Ont., has played Santa professionally for over a decade, while Ford, who lives in Mississauga, Ont., worked in tech and taught online before starting a parallel Santa Claus business in 2019. “[Gerry] I knew more about Santa Claus and I knew more about the virtual side,” said Ford. “We’re in constant contact … he forgets how many times he calls me and how many times I call him saying ‘Help!'” Despite their differences and distance, Ouellette and Ford have come together during the pandemic to bring out each others’ best. “We can always disagree and get along,” said Ford.
