Is it just me, Pumpkins, or are you seeing a crack in the well sealed commission coffin? Forgotten and buried for over a decade, it looks like the idea of paying travel agents is not completely dead.
Although it hasn’t risen to the ranks of the undead, little signs of life keep crawling over my computer screen. As did Air Canada, ACV followed WestJet’s lead and temporarily upped commissions to 12%. They will soon bring to light commissions on all fees as well. Some cruise lines such as MSC don’t trick agents out of commission on transfers, shore excursions and spa packages. Hotel Connect is treating agents to 18% on Nov. & Dec. bookings.
OK, so it may not be enough to run down the sidewalk like a crazed fool screaming you have found salvation. But I can smell a trend as surely as a mangy, moth eaten zombie can track down a giveaway pen.
So, my little scaredy cats, the moral of the story is that suppliers know agents can deliver. No need to run for the garlic and crosses every time someone like NCL goes after fresh consumers directly. You can take it.
