Excuse me, dahrlings, but...

Darling Is As Darling Does

Does it bother you that I call you dahrlings, dahrlings? Not that I care, I just might find your response interesting.

I ask because a very strange case was recently brought before a British employment tribunal, where a male flight attendant took on a female colleague who had the audacity to call him ‘darling’ instead of using his given name, which is, um, Rothstein.

Personally, I consider ‘darling’ a quantum improvement, but that’s just taste Pumpkins. Darling Rothstein cited religious discrimination in his case, because he said the term ‘darling’ offended his Seventh Day Adventist beliefs. (Though shalt not use casual terms of endearment?)

He also claimed that another colleague had ridiculed him for pursuing his Bible studies at work.

Well, you’re not really supposed to be reading the Book of Job when you’re on the job, boyfriend. (Oops, sorry Rothstein.)

This sordid tale apparently is not over: while the tribunal declined to proceed to a full hearing, Rothstein is appealing. He’s also being treated for depression. Poor dahrling!
