First of all, to you overly literate people out there – the “h” is there for emphaasis. As in, “Don’t you look simply mahvellous!” Go read some scintillating press releases if you don’t like my writing.
On another note, I feel it’s time to call a shovel a shovel. And I may have to drop my unwavering niceness and overzealous correctness in order to do so.
Ever since ACTA lost the ID card income, their raison d’être shifted to survival i.e. to maintaining their “être”. The opposite of which is to “not être” i.e. kaput, over & out, finito, sayonara, buh-bye now.
Now, to be not being isn’t a viable option for most living entities. It forces them to forage for water, food, shelter and advertising sales.
And here we come to the nub of the situation. If you cannot pay your salary through ID card income, you apparently have no choice but to sell the association’s membership base to suppliers in the form of ads, sponsorships and e-blasts.
Dear Pumpkins, do you find it the least bit ‘conflict of interestee’ for your independent industry lobby association to be a shill for paying advertisers? Did you provide permission to ACTA to use your confidential e-mail for e-blasts from 3rd party advertisers?
I believe, esteemed Pumpkins, that ACTA resources being used for media sales might better be directed to say…. I don’t know …. raising the profile of travel agents among consumers; doing research that will benefit retailers; providing members with press worthy articles for local papers; appearing on talk shows; doing a PR campaign on why travel agents are so hot right now; asking agents how their association can support them better. Just a few thoughts.
I would bet dollars to daiquiris that each and every one of you would pay more dues if you saw less cocktails and more action. I know I’m always willing to up my dos for some action. Cocktails too, for that matter.
