Excuse me, dahrlings, but...

Flatus Me Not

Science has confirmed something we in travel know all too well, Pumpkins. (Besides the fact that a cheap client moves oxygen in reverse proportion to the size of their pants). The new news is that at certain altitudes, humans are more prone to passing wind. Apparently it has to do with air pressure. Which is rather overstating the obvious, don’t you think?

A 3000-word report claims that the production of gas is perfectly natural but the sound and odour can be an issue. (People get paid to research this). To solve the problems associated with in-flight flatulence, scientists have devised an in-situ solution -- an odour-absorbing active charcoal insert.

I do appreciate the intention behind this new field of fartensic science. But personally Pumpkins, I’m not sure I want to be inserting anything anywhere mid-air while I’m feeling the pinch – especially not if it’s active.

They conclude the research with this alarming statement, “Holding back flatus on an airplane may cause significant discomfort and physical symptoms.” Never you mind. I once held back flatus so long I got a hiatus on my apparatus, if you know what I mean.

The bottom line is, I'm not sure any of this will help you sell air seats - but, good to know another pressing travel issue is being tackled.
