If purchasing any other luxury item besides travel entailed paying 10 times the price of the product in the form of taxes, people would go ape-poo, dahrlings.
So what is it about travel that we can publish a $59 price for a 7-night gardenview room at the Casa Marina Beach Resort, departing June 4th on AC or Rouge or something red, then tag on taxes of $437?
I don’t believe I’m being overly dramatic when I say, "What the heck?" And then you might well say, "It’s nothing new, lady. Why get your spanks in a clamp now?" Because sometimes, you just have to call out behaviour that everyone has normalized but deep in their hearts know to be wack – like when your husband sticks his tongue down the neighbour’s throat every time they meet at the supermarket. Sometimes you just have to say, now wait a minute!
And don’t tell me that because everyone’s got their proverbial tongue down some pricing rabbit hole, it’s ok. The total price for that package is $496, but the air only price is $619.
I know I’m not the brightest Swarovski in the brooch, dahrlings, but perhaps one of you can explain this type of practice to me.
It’s no wonder consumers don’t trust the travel industry.
