Qatar Airways has announced a significant increase in the number of flights to several European capital cities as part of its aggressive expansion programme to improve frequencies and offer passengers more connections.
Following the announcement of double daily Doha-Paris flights starting in October, Qatar Airways is adding capacity to Madrid, Athens and Stockholm – representing almost 40% more frequency across the four cities.
The Spanish capital Madrid will see an increase in the number of flights from the current four-a-week to daily, effective December 2nd. Qatar Airways is the only airline flying between the Gulf region and Spain.
The Athens route, which is currently being served daily will eventually increase to double daily starting with capacity increases in October. Qatar's Athens connections to Australia are popular with the large Greek community living and working there.
Stockholm will see an additional weekly service beginning in October.
Qatar has also announced new routes to Amritsar, Goa and Melbourne scheduled to come online over the next five months.
Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker stated, 'While many airlines are cutting back capacity in the current economic conditions, we strongly believe on building capacity to meet the needs of the travelling public, both in the short-term and long-term.'
