TICO Assists Passengers After YTO's Sunrise International Closes
Open Jaw

TICO is assisting travellers who booked flights with Toronto's Sunrise International Travels, which voluntarily terminated both its retailer and wholesaler registrations as of December 18.

The company was operating a risk program of flights from Toronto to Guyana, Grenada, Trinidad and Jamaica, and TICO says it didn't have sufficient financing to continue. Under its deals with Sunwing Airlines and SkyService, Sunrise was required to pay the carriers in advance of the flights.

A Grenada flight was set to leave today with Sunwing Airlines, but has now been cancelled. Flights that departed Monday and Tuesday were protected by TICO, while a Christmas Eve flight to Kingston, Jamaica will also fly under TICO protection. TICO is notifying passengers that return flights may be with another carrier at a different date and time. Some return flights from Guyana and Grenada will also be protected by TICO for Sunrise passengers.

Passengers and travel agents are encouraged to refer to TICO's website for updated information.
