Acclaim Meetings Launches Unused Blocked Space Auctions

Acclaim Meetings has announced a new service – Unused Blocked Space Auctions – to help its meeting planner member travel agents better manage the business repercussions of cancelled meetings and events.

The service is particularly relevant in today's marketplace, where according to a survey conducted last year by Ypartnership, $2.5 billion in losses from cancelled meetings during the second half of 2009 were projected by its survey respondents– and that was viewed as only a fraction of the total losses to the industry during this time due to cancelled off-site events.

When an Acclaim Meetings member needs to cancel a meeting for their client and the client is responsible for the rooms, the organization promotes the space to its network of meeting specialists in the U.S. and Canada in order to find a new client that needs the space over the same dates. This reduces or eliminates the original client's liability and delivers a good rate to the new client.

'One of the great benefits about membership in Acclaim Meetings is the ability for meetings specialists to network with their colleagues,'
