Tweet For Thai Charities; Intrepid Travel Launches Twitter Fundraiser

Australian-owned small group adventure company Intrepid Travel has launched a social media campaign to raise funds for Thai charities adversely affected by the current unrest in Bangkok. The company has posted tweets on its Twitter account (@Intrepid_Travel) and has promised to donate $1 Australian (about $0.88 Cdn) to its two charities in Thailand for every re-tweet.  It is also donating $1 for every person who selects that they “like” the campaign message Intrepid has posted on its Facebook Wall.

Through its not-for-profit foundation, The Intrepid Foundation, the company supports Friends of the Asian Elephant and the Baan Unrak Children’s Village. Both groups will be feeling the loss of financial support often supplied by Intrepid clients who visit the facilities during their Intrepid trips to Thailand. Last year over 1,000 Intrepid clients visited the sites.

Friends of the Asian Elephant aims to protect and conserve the welfare of elephants in Thailand.  It lobbies the government to stop illegal logging (which utilizes elephants) as well as provides free medical care through its elephant hospital.

The Baan Unrak Children’s Village is an orphanage and community relief centre which serves destitute women and children, providing shelter, food, housing, support and educational opportunities to over 140 children.

The Intrepid Foundation supports dozens of charities worldwide, and Intrepid Travel has a policy of matching donations dollar-for-dollar as well as picking up all administrative costs. Find out more at www.theintrepidtravelfoundation.org. Intrepid will donate up to $5,000 during this campaign.
