Travel retailer itravel2000 is branching out a bit with the launch of ‘itravel-explorer,’ a desktop travel app that its developers call “the travel industry’s first fully-integrated social media, booking, entertainment and communications app for the desktop.”

Giving travellers the ability to make free phone calls from a laptop is one of the features of the app, designed in partnership by itravel2000 and Itibiti Systems Inc., a wholly owned division of Intertainment Media Inc.

Free to download and use, itravel-explorer gives consumers access to a mix of services, content, promotions and communications. Users can browse and book travel options, and talk for free with friends and family across North America through a built-in dial pad/phone.

Other features include quick access to itravel2000’s Facebook and Twitter pages, weekly video updates from itravel2000 correspondents in Mexico and Florida, access to a video library stocked with destination previews and exclusive promotions and offers to users of the app.

“We’re delighted to bring even greater value and excitement to the itravel2000 experience… This exclusive app enhances our digital business, and demonstrates a commitment to consumer engagement that raises the bar for all online travel brands,” said Jonathan Carroll, CEO of itravel2000 parent Travelzest.
