Following severe winter weather late DEC resulting in travel chaos across Canada and the U.S., WestJet is expending its refund eligibility to 08JAN 2023.

Pax who had travel booked or changed by 28DEC 2022 11:59 MT for travel between 18DEC 2022 to 08JAN 2023 and chose to cancel their flight(s) or WestJet Vacations package may be eligible for a refund.

Any guest who proactively cancelled their flight by 11:59PM MT on 28DEC 2022 will receive a full refund to original form of payment said WestJet.

In a previous update, WestJet's refund eligibility window was for proactive cancellations for confirmed travel between 20-26DEC. WestJet's enhanced flexible change and cancel policies were in place between 20DEC 2022 and 08JAN 2023 for changes actioned before 26DEC.

"We sincerely apologize to guests who have been impacted by cancellations and delays resulting from severe winter weather across Western Canada. We understand the importance of holiday travel and the frustration and disappointment this has caused," WestJet said in a statement.

WestJet also noted that it has received a number of  reported cases related to fraudulent websites and social media accounts impersonating its business. The airline advised guests to "remain vigilant" against potential scams and fraud, and are being asked to double-check that the WestJet account they are interacting with is verified and that the advertised phone number is correct as listed on its web site.
